Announcing the Alumni Legacy Grant Winners

As the Mandela Washington Fellowship celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2024, Fellowship Alumni were invited to apply for the Alumni Legacy Grant, a one-time grant to develop a creative product in celebration of the Fellowship’s legacy. 

Through poetry, music, and visual art, the products created celebrate the impact the Fellowship experience has had on Alumni’s lives and how they are passing the lessons they’ve learned on to the next generation of young African leaders.  

Eswatini

The Alumni team from Eswatini created a digital mural display of images and videos featuring Eswatini Alumni accompanied by spoken word telling the story of the Fellowship’s impact. The project was led by 2023 Alumnus Simiso Dlamini, with core team members including 2019 Alumna Bertha Sithole and 2017 Alumnus Qiniso Motsa.

Nigeria

The Alumni team from Nigeria created a film showcasing the transformative power of the Mandela Washington Fellowship and its incredible impact on the Alumni, their experience, and respective communities. Through interviews and personal anecdotes, the series delves into the stories of the Alumni and their remarkable achievements. The project was led by 2021 Alumna Farida Habu Yahya, with core team members including 2023 Alumnus Elijah Affi and 2016 Alumnus Slyvester Sede.

Togo

The Alumni team from Togo wrote and produce a song about the success of the Fellowship on the life of Alumni. The project was led by 2017 Alumnus Oboube Aime Tossah and is dedicated to two Fellowship Alumni from Togo who have passed away, 2017 Fellowship Alumnus Abdourahman Bamba and 2017 Alumna Nora Akouavi Topou.

Uganda

The Alumni team from Uganda created a poem and audio-visual production to reflect the journey and success of the Fellowship. Additionally, the team painted a mural to celebrate the Fellowship’s success in impacting communities. The project was led by 2021 Alumnus Amos Kiyingi.
