Ebrima Sonko

2019 Fellow from The Gambia

Ebrima works as a research officer with the Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission of The Gambia, which is mandated to investigate human rights violations of the ex-president from 1994 to 2016. He also volunteers with the Commission on Political Debate as an administrative secretary and played an active role in staging the first ever presidential, parliamentary and local government debates in The Gambia. As head of the secretariat of the commission, he is responsible for the day-to-day running of the organization, developing and maintaining strategic partnerships, and overseeing project implementation. Having graduated from the state's only university where he served as secretary general of the state's largest student union, he uses his legal background to work with many youth and community-based organizations to promote the rule of law, democracy, and human rights in The Gambia.
