Gelica Inteca

2022 Fellow from Mozambique

Gélica Eugénio Inteca has more than nine years of experience in marine biodiversity conservation. Currently, Gélica is a professor and researcher in natural sciences at the University of Lurio. She also conducts environmental education sessions for primary school children, engages fishermen's community councils, and seeks to create alternative livelihoods for coastal communities. Her favorite discipline is community development, and she is particularly passionate about community involvement in sea turtle conservation. She is also an environmental activist who engages university students, civil society, and municipalities in waste management to reduce marine pollution. Gélica holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Lurio and a master's degree in Natural Resource Management for Tropical Development from the University of Florence. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Gélica plans to continue her work in the education sector and coastal community development, and to become a key player in the conservation of marine biodiversity.
