Hauwa Liman

2016 Fellow from Nigeria

Hauwa Liman is an entrepreneur with a deep-rooted desire to help tackle women and youth unemployment in her community. As a fashion entrepreneur with over five years' experience ,she hopes to use fashion as a tool for development. She is the CEO/creative director of the clothing line AFRIK ABAYA that specializes in African-inspired apparel. Her long-term goal is to build a fashion business enterprise with a global presence. She currently volunteers to train women in fashion design in her community. Hauwa holds a BSc in Economics, a master's in Development Studies from Bayero University Kano, and a certificate in Management from the Nigerian Institute of Management. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Hauwa plans to roll out her Fashion for Development Initiative Program (FODI), through which she will raise funds through fashion to empower rural women and youths by providing skills acquisition training and funds for small businesses.
