Muhammad Salisu Abdullahi

2016 Fellow from Nigeria

Salisu Abdullahi has more than seven years of experience in sustainable waste collection and management, particularly plastic waste. Salisu is the founder and managing director of eTrash2Cash, a social enterprise in Nigeria that allows low-income people to earn cash incentives in exchange for their trash, which is then reprocessed and recycled into reusable materials. Salisu also volunteers at the Youth Coalition against Terrorism, a youth-led non-governmental organization that unites youth against violent extremism in northern Nigeria. A 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow, Salisu holds a Master of Science in Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology with distinction. In the future, Salisu plans to expand his business into the direct recycling of a variety of other post-consumer wastes into eco-friendly and reusable products.
