Funmi Ilori has more than 15 years' experience in classroom teaching and 7 years' experience as a mobile library service provider. Funmi is chief executive officer of iRead Mobile Library Network, the first innovative "books on wheels" for children in Nigeria. She is also director of education at iRise Model Nursery and Primary School, where she focuses on closing the literacy and skills gap for underserved children. In addition, Funmi is an educational consultant, training school leaders and teachers in social entrepreneurship, early education, and literacy. She volunteers as a green ambassador, who distributes storybooks on the Sustainable Development Goals to schoolchildren, with the mission of leading them to "go green." Funmi holds a master's degree in Educational Psychology and a bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning. She is committed to improving the quality of education for children and to building the largest network of libraries in Africa. She wants to create direct jobs in the education industry and to shape educational practices in Africa while closing the gap in youth literacy. Funmi's 2015 selection as a Mandela Washington Fellow for Young African Leaders has increased her influence in her field, attracting media interviews, grants, and accolades.
