Tare Chirewa

2021 Fellow from Zimbabwe

Taremeredzwa T. Chirewa has worked in the creative and cultural industries (CGIs) for more than ten years. Taremeredzwa is a director at the Zimbabwe German Society/Goethe Zentrum Harare (ZGS/GZH), a cultural and language center focusing on developing and supporting the CCIs in Zimbabwe.  She has dedicated her career to facilitating development opportunities for Zimbabwean CCIs.  Through her work, she has been able to start a masterclass series that helps creatives in Zimbabwe transform their hobbies into viable businesses. Taremeredzwa participates in book drives for her neighborhood library and volunteers with the children's ministry at her church. She assists and mentors young creatives. Taremeredzwa holds a bachelor's degree in fine art, serves as a director at Nengare Incorporated Pl, and is a designer for Lilian C Collections.  Taremeredzwa has curated a few exhibitions, managed the 2013 Zimbabwe pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and sat on the Zimbabwe pavilion advisory committee for the 2019 Venice Biennale.  Taremeredzwa is driven by her passion for CCIs and the role of women in this field.  Being an artist herself, she has a unique perspective on the business of art.  Taremeredzwa credits the Mandela Washington Fellowship with opening up networks to support her work in the region.
