Yohane Banda

2022 Fellow from Malawi

Yohane Banda has more than seven years of experience in community development (social work). Yohane is founder of the Yohane Banda Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides housing for children and families that are homeless and a rehabilitation program that assists the homeless in getting off the streets and staying off the streets. Yohane is also co-founder of the Love Builds Social Impact Enterprise, which is the economic hub of his foundation. Previously, Yohane was a senior mechanical engineer in the railway industry. He also worked with the Malawi government's Social Welfare Department and the Blantyre City Assembly to reintegrate street children with their families. Yohane holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Yohane plans to return to Malawi and raise money to build a rehabilitation center and provide economic empowerment programs for homeless children and families. He also plans to work with the United States to develop programs that support and improve conditions for vulnerable and marginalized people.
