Aisha Abdullahi Bubah

2023 Fellow from Nigeria

Aisha Bubah has more than eight years of experience as a psychologist. She founded The Sunshine Series, a psychological services firm that provides quality mental health care through teletherapy, capacity building, and employee wellness programs. She also founded Idimma, a nongovernmental organization working to bridge the mental healthcare gap in underserved communities. Aisha advocated for the mental health bill that was signed into law by the president of Nigeria in early 2023. Through The Sunshine Series, Aisha and her team established the first mental health and suicide prevention helpline on Nigeria's emergency hotline 112, with support from the Nigerian government. They also created the first radio drama on mental health stories in Nigeria. Aisha holds a master's degree in Counseling Psychology. She is committed to building a better Nigeria, where every individual has access to equal opportunities and the choice to avoid social vices so that they can thrive and contribute to their community. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Aisha plans to scale her organization's services to reach more underserved communities and to advocate for relevant stakeholders, to prioritize mental well-being, and to ensure full implementation of the new mental health act.
