K B

2023 Fellow from Malawi

Kelvin Before Gumbi, popularly known as KBG or 'the influencer' on his social media platforms, is an artpreneur (an artist who is an entrepreneur) in Lilongwe, Malawi. He has taken advantage of his fame and used it to sidestep the traditional paths to success as an artist by setting up different businesses, including merchandising, content creation, and live streaming while independently selling his art. In addition to his work in content development and media consultancy for television networks and notable organizations, KBG is passionate about promoting other artists. To that end, he founded Nyali Muzik Studios, where he does most of the production for different artists. Among those artists are international household names such as Joe Boy, who performed with The Fresh Art Band, a collection of musicians that KBG assembled in 2016. KBG is a jack of all trades: if he is not working on his music, he is probably selling his clothing line, creating content for other artists, or doing virtual events for different organizations countrywide. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, he plans to apply his new business knowledge and networks to further his many pursuits.
