Akintunde Babatunde

2022 Fellow from Nigeria

Akintunde Babatunde is an international development professional with more than five years' experience in project management, civic technology, media innovation, and public policy. He is currently deputy director of development of the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, where he coordinates an effort to drive research and policy work across West Africa on six programs. Akintunde has authored more than 100 publications on public policy, governance, and fiscal transparency on local and international media platforms. He has coordinated 6 fellowship programs and more than 20 capacity development programs and trainings for more than 1,000 journalists, researchers, civil society practitioners, and government officials. Akintunde holds a Master of Arts (with distinction) in Media Practice for Development and Social Change from the University of Sussex via the United Kingdom and Commonwealth Office Chevening Scholarship for Future Leaders. He is motivated by the desire to see a society that is driven by equal access to opportunities. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Akintunde plans to build a network of development professionals and collaborate with the talented and determined individuals he meets during the fellowship on projects involving accountability, sustainability, and participatory development in Nigeria and Africa at large.
