Alaa Abusufian Elkabashi Dafallah

2022 Fellow from Sudan

Alaa Dafallah has more than seven years of experience in the fields of leadership, policy development, advocacy, public health, and medical education. She is junior doctor and policy and research officer at Sudan Research Consultancy Group. Alaa holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Khartoum and is a Global Rhodes Scholar Elect, reading for a Master of Science in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the University of Oxford. She is passionate about bridging inequities in access to health through health workforce development. In addition to leading and participating in medical missions to improve access to health services in distant and underserved communities in Sudan, Alaa was liaison officer for medical education issues at the International Federation of Medical Students Associations, representing 1.3 million medical students globally, authoring youth policies, and delivering key presentations. She also served as an executive board member at the World Federation for Medical Education and the Association for Medical Education in Europe and was a steering committee member at the World Health Organization's Global Health Workforce Network Youth Hub. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Alaa plans to address inequalities in access to health experienced in the conflict-ridden communities of Sudan.
