Angella Asiimwe

2021 Fellow from Uganda

Angella Asiimwe has more than eight years' experience working with women's rights organizations, civil society organizations, law firms, the women's movement, and feminist organizations. Angella is a lawyer, human rights activist, feminist, motivational speaker, certified civic education trainer, and advocacy officer at the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers. She is the founder and chief executive officer of Voice Consults Limited and a board member of The Remnant Generation, the Uganda Project Implementation and Management Centre, and the International Rescue Committee. Angella was on a committee that reviewed Makerere University's sexual harassment policy, which acts as precedent for all universities in Uganda. She spearheaded #Justice4Samantha, Uganda's first online campaign against workplace sexual harassment. Together with the Domestic Violence Act Coalition, she has helped enact laws that promote women's rights, including the Domestic Violence Act, the Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Act, and the Sexual Offences Bill. Angella holds a Bachelor of Laws from Cavendish University Uganda and is currently pursuing a diploma in Gender Responsive Governance at The Hague Academy of International Law. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Angella will continue advocating for the rights of women, girls, and marginalized people and influencing favorable policies and laws.
