Candice Mbaita

2018 Fellow from Zimbabwe

Candice Mbaita has twelve years' experience in diagnostic radiography with a focus on sonography and ultrasound. Currently, Candice is a mobile community sonographer at Insight Mobile Imaging, an organization that she co-founded, which brings radiology services to rural, remote, and disadvantaged communities. Candice holds a master's degree in Diagnostic Radiography from the National University of Science and Technology. She is committed to improving access to diagnostic medical services in marginalized communities at the primary health level, thus improving patient management and eliminating the unnecessary loss of life. Candice is also the secretary general of the Zimbabwe National Development Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development and aimed at improving the quality of life of disadvantaged communities in Zimbabwe. Candice and her colleagues at the association provide free programs that the community would typically not be able to access, such as medical outreach, legal services, and youth and women empowerment workshops. She is also a part-time lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe in the Department of Radiology. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Candice plans to continue bridging the inequalities in health service delivery between urban and rural populations.
