Colman Thadey Ndetembea has three years of experience in assistive technology. Colman is the co-founder and chief executive officer at Kyaro Assistive Tech, a company that focuses on design, manufacturing, and provision of appropriate, affordable, and appealing assistive devices for people with disabilities in Tanzania and Sub-Saharan Africa at large. Colman cofounded Kyaro as a design project for a multipurpose wheelchair while in his final year of university. The project won second place in the 2019 Kesho Leo Science Slam and first place in the technical colleges category of the National Competition of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MAKISATU) in 2020. Colman is committed to ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities in all aspects of life, which he believes is necessary for Tanzania to develop and move forward as a society without leaving anyone behind. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Colman plans to expand his organization's work, grow its catalog, expand the technology it uses, reach and assist more people, and offer more possibilities for people with disabilities through assistive technology.
