Daniels Akpan has five years of experience as an advocate for quality education, leadership, and youth development in the non-profit sector. Currently, Daniels is the Executive Director and Co-founder of the African Centre for Learning and Educational Development Advocacy, as well as the African Youth Academy. He oversees the design, development, and implementation of a wide variety of programming which has directly benefited over 5,000 teachers, 750 young women, 150 youth, and over 20,000 students and graduates. Previously, Daniels worked in the education sector of Millennium Promise, Pampaida-Nigeria under the Sustainable District Project supported by UNDP and the government of Japan. He has volunteered over 2,400 hours for community development with different organizations as a facilitator, mentor, educator, and programs officer; groups he has volunteered with include the Youth Advisory Group of UNFPA, Coca-Cola, African Youth and Adolescent Network, and the YALI Network-Nigeria. Daniels studied Industrial Design from Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria, and he is currently undertaking a professional development course in education from 1 Million Teachers and Queens University in Canada. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Daniels plans to scale-up the impact of his work on education and youth development to other African Countries while continuing to support the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Association and the YALI Network in Nigeria.
