Emnet Shimber is a physician currently directing the intensive care unit and emergency department at the Hawassa University Hospital. She plans to develop skills in critical care and work with the Ministry of Health on issues related to equity and inclusion. Her professional goals include bringing human and equipment resources into regions, building the capacity of the regional hospitals by establishing centers and campaigning for affordable healthcare, and establishing a health insurance system that is affordable for poor populations. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Emnet hopes to advance the quality of hospitals' critical care system in remote parts of the country.
