Oluwafunke (Funke) Maureen Adeoye is an award-winning lawyer and social innovator. She is founder and team lead of Hope Behind Bars Africa, an organization that leverages technology, legal aid, and advocacy to close the justice gap. More than 7,000 justice-involved individuals have benefited from its diverse initiatives. Since 2019, Funke has been a contributing expert for the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index. She holds a law degree from the University of Benin and has completed two top programs at the Lagos Business School. In addition, she is a 2019 Makwanyane Fellow of the Cornell University Center on the Death Penalty and an Acumen West Africa Fellow. Funke has firsthand experience with injustice in the criminal justice system, and she intends to use the knowledge and experience she gained from the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders to create more innovative programs that will enhance human rights and criminal justice reforms in Nigeria.
