Gerald Katabazi

2017 Fellow from Uganda

Gerald Katabazi is a social and economic coffee entrepreneur who is passionate about coffee farming and the workers who produce coffee. In 2008, he founded Volcano Coffee with a mission of improving coffee quality, promoting domestic consumption behaviors, developing the skills of young people, and providing a marketplace for coffee products made in Uganda and other countries in Africa. His mission is to see the center of coffee production in Africa shift from commercial products to specialty products. Gerald is chairman and chief executive officer of the Coffee Baristas Forum–Uganda and a founding member of the Authentic Coffee Roasters Society, organizations that champion best practices for brewing. He is a 2017 recipient of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.
