Ian Damian Tarimo

2019 Fellow from Tanzania

Ian Tarimo has over ten years of experience in social innovation. Currently, Ian is the founding Executive Director of Tai Tanzania and Tai Studio, focusing on using the power of storytelling, data, and media technology to inspire social behavior change in Africa. His studio has recently become one of the leading 3D animation studios in East Africa. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology. Ian is motivated by his passion for empowering others to unleash their full potential. Raised by parents who were public servants, Ian has had a desire to contribute to community development since he was a child. Following the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Ian received the Leadership Impact Award in 2021 from the U.S. State Department in recognition of the impact of his work in the community. He is also a recipient the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund grant and the LINC Grant, which helped him to collaborate with several Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni in Tanzania and Nigeria on various projects that aim to address the most pressing issues in the community, including access to education, rights of people living with disabilities, gender-based violence, and teenage pregnancy.
