Jerry Geofrey MangEna

2019 Fellow from Tanzania

Jerry Mang’ena has more than three years of experience working in the aquatic sciences. Currently, he is director at Aqua-Farms Organization, a Tanzanian nonprofit that sensitizes communities to the sustainable use of aquatic resources (fisheries and aquaculture), which will improve their livelihoods. Moreover, he has done extensive work in tilapia fish farming. Jerry holds a bachelor’s degree in Aquatics Sciences and Fisheries from the University of Dar es Salaam. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Marine Microbiology. Jerry is motivated by the desire to see all people benefit from aquatic bioresources, which provide protein, combat malnutrition, and promote good health. Jerry credits the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, which he received in 2019, with providing him skills, networking opportunities, and a substantially improved leadership model
