Justina Onumah

2022 Fellow from Ghana

Justina Adwoa Onumah is a senior research scientist (agricultural development economist) at the Science and Technology Policy Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in Ghana. She holds a doctorate in Development Studies from the University of Ghana and has more than 10 years of research experience in multiple donor-funded projects and consulting for organizations such as the United Nations Center for Trade and Development and the U.K. Department for International Development. Justina is an international speaker and researcher with several fellowships and awards to her credit. Aside from research, Justina's passion is to see more women and action put into the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields through advocacy; mentorship; and stronger links between research, industry, and policy. Currently, she is the Next Einstein Forum Ambassador for Ghana, serves as a mentor for the Ghana Science and Technology Explorer Prize, and mentors for Karpowership's Girl Power program in Ghana. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Justina hopes to use the skills gained to strengthen research policy engagements and also launch her S(he) Project, which will focus on using male and female mentors to inspire the next generation of women leaders.
