Lusungu Kalanga has over five years' experience in the civil society sector with a leaning towards advancing women and children's rights. She currently works with ActionAid International Malawi, where she focuses on designing, planning and coordinating the implementation of activities to promote and protect the rights of children, especially girls. Lusungu also works with girls and young women through the provision of safe spaces for interaction and mentorship with Growing Ambitions, an organization she co-founded. She also volunteers as club secretary for Capital City Leo Club, the youth arm of Lion's Club International, organizing charity events and donations to people in need. Lusungu sits on the board of a full primary school for orphans, which she helped to establish. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she plans to expand the work of Growing Ambitions nationally and continue advocating for women and children's rights in the civil society space.
