Maggie Mwape

2019 Fellow from Zambia

Maggie Mwape has over seven years of experience in community development and environmental monitoring. Currently, she is the co-founder and head of programs for the Centre for Environment Justice, where she focuses on project design and implementation. The Centre for Environment Justice works to empower mining communities by promoting sustainable alternative energy solutions and advocating for land compensation for displaced communities. Maggie is also the co-chair of the Southern Africa Youth Forum, which includes SADC regional civil society youth organizations. Maggie studied Business Administration and has completed trainings in human resources, community environmental monitoring, environmental justice, and strategic environmental assessments. She is driven by her passion and commitment to environmental and social justice and hopes that access to safe, natural environments will soon be a fundamental human right. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Maggie plans to continue her work in for environmental and social justice with a focus on advocating for community rights.
