Margaret Tukwaje Lole

2019 Fellow from South Sudan

Margaret Lole is a journalist and communications professional who has over nine years of experience in media and communications roles. Currently, Margaret is an associate editor for the Gurtong Peace and Media project, where she oversees the development and production of both online and print publication for the multi-media platform. The Gurtong Peace and Media project focuses on promoting peace and reconciliation by facilitating access to information that increases knowledge and celebrates the values of cultural diversity through information on different ethnic communities in South Sudan. Margaret holds a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from Uganda Christian University, and a master's in Diplomacy from the University of Nairobi. Margaret chose a career in journalism because she believes storytelling has the transformational power to positively change attitudes and beliefs of society, especially in South Sudan. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she plans to develop and advocate for changes in her community by taking on a more activist role in her career. She also hopes to build confidence and broaden her knowledge on topics she covers in her writing, such as human rights, foreign policy, and, among others.
