Marie Christina Kolo

2017 Fellow from Madagascar

Marie Christina Kolo has over 12 years of experience in youth and women's empowerment, social entrepreneurship, and climate justice in France, India, Senegal, China and Madagascar. Currently, Marie Christina is a Regional at People Power Inclusion NGO. She mobilizes youth in the region as the co-founder of the Indian Ocean Climate Network, a youth network that promotes youth climate solutions. She founded Green N Kool, a social enterprise that models a circular economy and is a national platform to discuss gender and climate justice. Marie Christina holds a master's degree in humanitarian and development project management from the Catholic University of Paris. Since the Mandela Washington Fellowship, as a violence survivor, she founded the movement Women Break the Silence to combat rape culture and gender (funded by Alumni Innovation Engagement Fund in 2020). She has been awarded several national and international prizes recognizing her commitment to human rights and the positive impact of Green N Cool. As the recipient of the 2022 Leadership Impact Award, Marie Christina is now working to mobilize other alumni in the fights for climate justice and against gender-based violence.
