Maya Dohou

2023 Fellow from Benin

Maya Dohou has more than 12 years of experience in agribusiness in Benin. Currently, Maya is cofounder and co-chief executive officer of AfriCereal Group, a company that supports cereal producers with agricultural advice, optimization of agricultural operations, and linking farmers to a remunerative market. Through her work, she has helped train nearly 5,400 farmers, 60 percent of whom are women, on the use of information and communications technology to improve agricultural yields and on the effects and challenges of climate change. She also trains 200 producers on good post-harvest management practices. Maya is passionate about promoting environmental protection and empowering and supporting women and disadvantaged peoples. Maya holds a bachelor's degree in Geography and Environmental Management. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Maya plans to become a consultant in sustainable mechanization and product traceability to help reinvent cereals cultivation in Africa and to make agriculture attractive to young people.
