Muazu Alhaji Modu has five years of professional experience in social accountability, grassroots community mobilization, and environmental sustainability. Muazu is founder and chief executive officer of Spotlight for Transparency and Accountability, a nonprofit organization in Nigeria that promotes transparency and accountability, democratic governance, and climate action. He is also regional lead of connected development for northeast Nigeria, a position focused on improving access to information and empowering communities. Muazu is currently pursuing his Master of Science at the National Open University of Nigeria. He holds a postgraduate diploma in Computer Science from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, as well as a national diploma and higher national diploma in Computer Science from Federal Polytechnic Damaturu. Muazu is passionate about promoting transparency and accountability, empowering marginalized communities with information, and strengthening them by creating platforms for informed debate. Since receiving the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders in 2018, Muazu has engaged in high-level advocacy with Yobe State government officials on joining the Open Government Partnership and on reforming state policy on education, revitalization, and investment.
