Mukangoga Marie Louise

2023 Fellow from Rwanda

Marie Louise Mukangoga has more than seven years of experience in the disability rights movement. Currently, Marie Louise is advocacy officer at the National Union of Disabilities Organizations of Rwanda and focuses on promoting inclusive services in health, education, and livelihood at the community level. She also raises awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities among community members, especially families, civil society organizations, local leaders, and service providers. Marie Louise is the chair of the Rwanda Wheelchair Basketball Federation and promotes inclusive sports and social participation of youth with disabilities. She is the vice chair of the Organization of Women with Disabilities for Health Development. Marie Louise holds a master's degree in Project Management. She is passionate about working with different actors in the disability movement to raise awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities and to change the mindset of policymakers for inclusive policies that help remove the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Marie Louise plans to join efforts with other actors in disability rights and raise the voices of persons with disabilities, especially women, for an inclusive society.
