Rekiatu Jingi

2021 Fellow from Cameroon

Rekiatu Musa Jingi has more than eight years of experience as an investigative journalist and human rights advocate. Currently, she works for a state broadcaster, producing documentaries and reports on issues related to migrants, women's rights, and sexual and reproductive health. Her work has contributed to changing mindsets and the course of development in Cameroon. She advocates for the education of girls, combats early and forced marriages, and supports the integration of vulnerable persons. She is also the chief executive officer of Roukys Delice, a non-profit restaurant that trains girls, women, and refugees in the culinary arts and provides cooked food and fresh groceries to the needy. Her goal is to break barriers and to change the narrative using her communication, writing, and culinary skills. Rekiatu holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. On completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Rekiatu plans to use the skills she acquires to continue advocating for education, equality, and the empowerment of vulnerable persons and to collaborate with policymakers to bridge policy and practice.
