Rokiatou Traore

2022 Fellow from Mali

Rokiatou Traore has more than five years of experience as a green entrepreneur helping Mali work toward attaining the Sustainable Development Goals on poverty, health, gender equality, economic growth, and climate action. With her late husband, she founded the Herou Alliance, a start-up that develops an inclusive moringa value chain for economic, environmental, and social impacts. The organization aims to plant one million moringa trees, deliver technical assistance to women and youth, and train those people as the suppliers of their moringa trees. She wants to integrate moringa into the daily diet of 20 million people. Herou Alliance helps fund other mentorship programs, including One Planet Fellowship, Africa Innovation Fellowship, and West African Climatic Leadership for Women. Rokiatou's organization has also received funding from the Tony Elumelu Foundation and the International Development Research Centre in Canada. She has a master's degree in Management of Organizations and a master's degree in Planning and Management of Organizations. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Rokiatou plans to use her new knowledge and skills to further her organization's reach, to help women and youth, and to help her country succeed in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.
