Sarah Nyawira has more than 10 years experience in environmental protection, management, and development. In her recent position as an environmental policy consultant at the Nairobi Convention Secretariat of the United Nations Environment Programme, she researched and analyzed issues and delivered policy briefs, conference papers, and publicity materials on projects in the Western Indian Ocean region of Africa. An excellent project manager, Sarah develops impactful presentations and briefs on sensitive and emerging environmental issues. She is a contributing author to the Africa Environment Outlook and Global Environment Outlook reports. Sarah has a Master of Arts in International Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Nairobi. An Alumna of the Young African Leaders Initiative, she also holds a diploma in Project Management and speaks and writes in intermediate French. As a leader in the League of Young Professionals in Kenya, Sarah enjoys sharing lessons with young people and explaining the links between the environment and everyday life. Sarah hopes to use the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders to delve deeper into ideas that will bring about transformations in Kenya and in Africa.
