Suzan Yumbe has ten years of experience in the water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector. She is a health officer by profession, a 2022 Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumna, Founder, and Executive Director of Afyaplus, an NGO that deals with water sanitation and hygiene while empowering adolescent girls and young women. In Afyaplus, she leads a team of 36 people to provide clean water, good sanitation, and hygiene services in the community. Suzan has facilitated the provision of clean water, constructed hand-washing stations and initiated sanitary pad laboratories to support children, adolescent girls, teachers and other staffs in 100 primary and secondary schools of all districts in Iringa, Tanzania.
Suzan also co-founded a company known as Jamii Afyaplus Limited (JALI), a social enterprise working with young women to produce an eco-conscious, non-toxic, user-friendly, cost-effective range of Reusable sanitary pads known as Afyaplus pads, which can be used for more than three years. She also volunteers as a mentor to 20 young directors who have founded organizations by training them on organizational development, policies, systems, resource mobilization and organization sustainability.
