Fellowship Awards the AYS a Grant to Help Empower Women and Girls in Africa

The goal of this foundational work is to create opportunities for participants from across Africa. We hope to encourage them to work together to develop results-based initiatives, programs and practices to address challenges faced by women and girls so they can become change agents and leaders in their communities.”

Sharon Hill, who manages the Fellowship’s Leadership in Public Management Institute at Andrew Young School of Policy Studies’ (AYS) at Georgia State University, is collaborating with 2019 Fellowship Alumnae Ndeye Yande Diop and Rokhaya Diop of Senegal, Affissatou Diabagate of Cote d’Ivoire, and Djaoudath Alidou of Benin on a Reciprocal Exchange project. Together, they are designing a two-part program in which they will run focus groups in Cote d’Ivoire and produce a three-day Women and Girls Leadership and Empowerment Conference in Senegal in May 2021.

Additionally, Atlanta-based filmmaker Tamlin Hall, who has been involved with the Georgia State’s Institute since 2018, is collaborating with 2019 Fellowship Alumna Anne Mootian of Kenya to produce a documentary about efforts to abolish female genital mutilation in Kenya that he will begin filming in May 2021.
